My Thru Hiking Plans for 2024!

Is this the year I finally thru hike the Continental Divide Trail and finish my triple crown? I've already done the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail, so it seems like the most logical choice! Not yet! Instead I am hiking some other trails that are a bit shorter, but doing them back to back to back. Starting out in April with the 800 mile Hayduke trail, then in July hiking the 500 mile ...
Why I Don't Use Trekking Poles - But You Should!
Просмотров 29 тыс.3 месяца назад
More than 90% of thru hikers use trekking poles, but I don't. They are incredibly beneficial in so many different ways, and I think everyone ever should use them. They help to prevent injury, they allow you to hike faster, a lot of ultralight tents require them, and they make hiking feel easier! So why don't I use them? I was using the BRS stove for several years as a more casual backpacker, but last year during a 2-week thru hike it started acting up and was really erratic with fuel/flame control. I bought the amicus this year hoping to get something more durable and trustworthy, and it seems great so far. Definitely works better in wind - the BRS was always a struggle to light in even the slightest breeze, but the amicus lights no problem. I think it’s worth the investment and the bit of extra weight if you’re someone who cooks regularly on trips.

    - Use a poncho instead of a rain jacket. - You dont really need a towel, no matter how light it is. - If you have a lot of trees in the area, use a hammock, so you can save weight on a sleeping pad and on a tent aswell. its really comfortable for me, i sleep very well in those. - Try mesh clothes, in some cases they are great base layers.

On that diet how is that you’re still alive? Haha, just kidding, I eat virtually the same stuff when out on the trail! When in town I try to eat as many fruits and veggies as I can. I find the trick is not to order too much at a restaurant, if you’re stopping at one, (mmm cheeseburgers, pizza, etc.) so that you have room left over for at least some fruit/veg. If I’m too full to eat the healthy stuff I’ll carry it with me and eat most/all of it by the end of the day!

DAYUM I have a goretex northface jacket, shakedry I believe but maybe not? It's a $350 jacket.... Absolutely ridiculous, but it's the only one that isn't instant trash bag in humidity... That frog jacket is dope af for a fall or early spring hike as if it rains it will be dumb cold. But summer, we should promote undies and flopies only hiking, can't stop won't stop moving or else you get cold xD (I sweat more than the average human, like I could be walking normal in 75+ and will start sweating. 80+ Like dripping, my shirt is going to be soaked within 30-45 minutes of walking, NORMAL walking... My dad, uncle, grandpa on my dad's side, all sweat like crazy as well.. So I am a bit different q.q )
